  5. The Second Triumvirate • It was an alliance between Octavian (Augustus), Marcus, and Marc Antony. • This marked the end to the Roman Republic. • Also known as the roman Civil War. • Began in 43 BC and ended in 31 BC. • This was when Octavian took on the name of Augustus. • Octavian, Mark Antony and Lepidus had even more power than the Roman Senate and its consuls. • They even had the control over the military decisions.

  7. The Naval Battle of Actium (31 BCE) • This was the last battle of the civil war. • Octavian defeated Marc Antony and he founded monarchy. • Octavian and Marc never were friendly to each other and they have a strong hate for each other.

  8. The War Itself • A civil war broke out between Marc Antony and Octavian for control of the Roman Empire. • The war began when Octavian entered Alexandria and this was the beginning to it all. • The war went on for about one year and caused much tension between the different groups.

  9. The Ending To It All • The Second Triumvirate ended with Octavian's defeat of Lepidus in Sicily. • After his death, it became a contest between Octavian and Antony for dominance and complete control. • Octavian defeated Antony at Actium and became the sole power in the Roman world.
