  5. extraordinary • The Negro Leagues had extraordinary players, and adoring fans came to see them wherever they played. • An extraordinary event took place when a man walked on the moon. 5

  6. extraordinary:remarkable; very special 6

  7. apathetic • And many people were apathetic about racial problems. • The students were apathetic about their homework. They didn’t even bother to check the answers to their math problems. 7

  8. apathetic:not interested; does not care 8

  9. intimidate • He would have to possess the self-control not to fight back when opposing players tried to intimidate or • hurt him. • Tests intimidate, or scare, some students. 9

  10. intimidate:to make someone feel bad by hurting their feelings 10

  11. experiment • Branch Rickey and Jackie Robinson were starting what would be known in history as “the great experiment.” • We left the bread crumbs in the snow as an experiment to see if the wild birds would eat them. 11
