  1. Labour-intensive industries mean Manufacturing industries employed a large number of workers because they needed workers and large part of their production costs go to workers wages Reasons for these industries because There was high unemployment in Singapore These industries could create jobs for them

  2. Multinational corporations were attracted to Singapore – because Labour was cheap Government policies were consistent Pioneer certificates were issued Training subsidies and duty-free imports for equipment and raw materials needed were given EDB encouraged foreign investors through direct selling

  3. Resulted in Increase in foreign investment and more industries were set up Decrease in unemployment and workforce became more stable

  4. Economic Development Board – role was to Encourage foreign investment Promote direct selling Promote cheap labour Issue benefits like pioneer certificates and training subsidies

  5. Singapore’s labour force was peaceful – because Government set up labour laws to protect the employer and employee For example Industrial Arbitration Court in 1960 NTUC in 1961 Newlabour law in 1968 National Wages Council in 1972 Which resulted in Work stoppages were reduced and so economy progressed

  6. Singapore’s Labour Force was skilled – because Technical education was introduced to both boys and girls EDB started a number of training schemes to upgrade skills of workers who were already in the workforce Developed countries helped out by donating machinery for training and sent out experts Which resulted in Skilled workers Employment increased

  7. Jurong Town Corporation was set up to facilitate developing industrial estates – so that Foreign investors cut down time looking for suitable locations They could set up their factories in the shortest time Unemployment could be overcome fast

  8. And carefully planned Light industries to be located in multi-storey or flatted factories to save land Labour – intensive industries located near housing estates Heavy industries away from residential areas And this helped industrialization because Workers motivated to work because transport cost of reduced and travelling time too Investors saw Singapore to be efficient so became confident to invest
