Training our Cyberspace Workforce • Enlisted Workforce • Officer Workforce • Civilian Workforce • No Cyber rating (MOS)… but… Competencies and Master Training List • Cyber billets typically filled with Information Systems Technicians (IT), Electronics Technicians (ET) and Intelligence Specialists (IS) • Initial cyber training - Joint Cyber Analysis Course (JCAC) • Additional training based on position • Core courses - Joint Advanced Cyber Warfare Course (JACWC) and Intermediate Cyber Core (ICC) • Additional training based on position • Post Graduate Opportunities in Information Assurance; Strategic Intelligence – Cyber; IT Strategic Management • Primary training opportunities - commercial courses to achieve and maintain required certifications • Fully staffed Cyber Protection team will include civilian personnel
Current Progress • 01 March 2017: Coast Guard was included in USCC J7 funded sustainment training for Cyber Mission Forces. • FY17: Executed 6 quotas in CPT-Core, 4 quotas in JCAC, and 3 quotas in JACWC. • FY18: Executed 3 quotas in CPT-Mission Protection, 3 quotas in Intel Intro to Cyber, 14 quotas in CPT-Core.
Future Plans • Develop Cyber Systems Major at Coast Guard Academy (CGA) • CGA to attain NSA/DHS Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CDE) Designation • Continue to seek and attend training that aligns with US Cyber Command’s CPT training requirements • Further define training requirements for cyberspace workforce beyond Cyber Protection Team • Define USCG cyber training requirements for Maritime Transportation System.
Priorities / Needs • The Right people, with the Right training, in the Right position, at the Right time. • We must: • Continue to define training requirements • Continue to identify & partner with training sources • Retain trained personnel
