NCAA - D1 --180, 699 athletes D2 --120,434 athletes D3 --191,398 athletes NAIA - ~65,000 athletes NJCAA - 2 year Junior Colleges ~50,000 athletes There’s many options our there, but its about finding the right fit athletically, academically, financially, socially, etc….. 600,00+ College Athletes

NCAA Division III Eligibility Requirements • High school diploma • Each university sets their own admissions standards, financial aid (no athletic based scholarships) and athletic eligibility. • Do NOT have to register with the NCAA Clearinghouse but should still set up a student profile • 82% of all student-athletes receive some form of academic grant or need-based scholarships, but not direct athletic money. Some money through endowments and private sponsorship. Tends to be smaller, more expensive schools.

NCAA Division II Eligibility Requirements • Graduate from high school • 16 Core Courses • 3 English • 2 Math (Algebra 1 or higher) • 2 Natural or Physical Science • 3 additional from above areas • 2 Social Science • 4 Additional from all areas or foreign language • ACT/SAT score matching your core course GPA on corresponding sliding scale • Early Academic Qualifier (After 6 semesters 2.5 Core GPA/14 Core & 68 Sum score on ACT**) • Helps with recruiting

NCAA Division II Full Qualifier • Minimum GPA- 2.20/ACT Sum Score=70** • Can practice, compete and receive athletic money during 1st year of enrollment Partial Qualifier • Minimum GPA-2.0/ACT Sum Score=68** • Can practice and receive athletic money but cannot compete during 1st year of enrollment Non-Qualifier • Cannot receive $, practice, or compete during the first year of enrollment **ACT/SAT score matching your core course GPA on corresponding sliding scale • *** Students should be reminded that NCAA eligibility criteria is the minimal NCAA standards. • Universities often have higher academic standards that students must meet to be admitted to the University. The Higher the grades and test scores…less risk for the coaches

NCAA Division I Eligibility Requirements • Graduate from high school in 8 academic semesters • 16 Core Courses • 4 English • 3 Math (Algebra 1 or higher) • 2 Natural or Physical Science • 1 additional from above areas • 2 Social Science • 4 Additional from all areas or foreign language • 10 of 16 Core Courses must be completed before the 7th semester (senior year) • ACT/SAT score matching your core course GPA on corresponding sliding scale • Early Academic Qualifier (After 6 semesters- 3.0 Core GPA/14 core and ACT sum of 75**)

NCAA Division I – August 2016 NCAA Eligibility certifies or denies students’ eligibility Full Qualifier Practice, Compete, Receive $ • 16 Core Courses • Core Course GPA 2.3 or higher • ACT/SAT matching core GPA based on sliding scale Non-Qualifier Cannot receive $, practice, or compete during the first year of enrollment Academic Redshirt Receive $, Practice… CANNOT compete the first year • 16 Core Courses • Core Course GPA of 2.0-2.99 • ACT/SAT matching core GPA based on sliding scale • Students must meet academic standards their 1st semester • ***Students should be reminded that NCAA eligibility criteria is the minimal NCAA standards. • Universities often have higher academic standards that students must meet to be admitted to the University. Higher grades and test scores…less risk for the coaches***

NCAA “Clearinghouse” www.ncaaeligibilitycenter.org Students must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center in order to be identified as a student eligible to participate in DI or DII athletics. • Fee waiver available for students who qualify • Official transcript sent through school ACT sent (ACT Code-9999) • Sum Score-combined score of your highest subscore for each of the areas (English, Math, Reading, Science) College coaches can ask for a player to be certified-- helps with recruiting

CORE COURSE INFORMATION • College prep courses that have been approved by the NCAA • ONLY these courses are used to calculate a student’s core GPA for NCAA. • Most student’s Core GPA will be lower than their cumulative GPA. (ie: cumulative 2.788= core 2.409, cumulative 2.457= core 2.269) • Courses updated annually • Non-Traditional Course (ie: online, correspondence, credit recovery) have specific guidelines to be considered before ever enrolling in. Make sure you always communicate with your counselor and the NCAA when enrolling in any non-traditional course(s) and let them know you are a college-bound student athlete. They can help you confirm its NCAA approved • Transfer students from other high schools will have to work closely with previous school(s) for core course and transcript information. • Student who receive special education services (IEP) may have some variances in their eligibility. Please contact your counselor if that may apply to you • New Standards for EL (ELL) Students

NAIA www.playnaia.org Eligibility Requirements Graduating HS seniors must meet 2 out of 3: • Minimum GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale • 18 ACT or 860 SAT • Graduate in top 50% of class Eligibility Center Separate from NCAA • All student athletes must register and complete student profile • $70 (fee waiver available) • Early decision • 3.0 GPA 16 ACT end of junior year • 2.5 GPA 16 ACT midway senior year if before 18-19 school year Check Website for colleges– 300+ to choose from NAIA Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete PowerPoint presentations for students/parents and posters Annual NAIA Sports Showcase- 1 stop shopping with all NAIA schools. (Soccer, Baseball, Football, basketball & lacrosse)

JUNIOR COLLEGE www.njcaa.org Eligibility → Must graduate from high school Divisions 1, 2, and 3 vary by sport A+ for Missouri junior colleges Transfer rules: • If student has not met NCAA eligibility out of high school, they have to remain at the junior college for 2-4 semesters(depending on D1 or D2) and maintain a 2.0 before eligible to transfer.

Freshmen • Highest Grades Possible-work with your teachers, counselor, tutoring, etc… • Understand credits you need for graduation as well as which of your classes are considered core courses • Know your core GPA • Communicate with your counselor and coaches that you want to compete at the college level • Know what your coaches want from you and do even more. Off-season just as important as during season • Stay eligible for high school sports • Attend camps andclinics • NCAA Profile Page Sophomores • Highest Grades Possible-work with your teachers, counselor, tutoring, etc… • Understand credits needed for graduation as well as which of your classes are considered core courses • Continue to communicate with your counselor and coaches. Juniors • Highest Grades Possible-work with your teachers, counselor, tutoring, etc.. • Work with counselor on Core GPA • Continue to work with your coaches on realistic levels of play to consider. • Email/contact college coaches • Videos • Sports resume • Lots of resources with samples • ACT-take 2 times • Send to NCAA (9999) • NAIA (9876) • Register with NCAA/NAIA Clearinghouse • NCAA Website Registration Checklist Seniors • Highest Grades Possible-work with your teachers, counselor, tutoring, etc.. • Meet with counselor to check core courses and Core GPA/eligibility • Continue to work with your coaches on realistic levels of play to consider. • Email/contact college coaches • Videos • Sports resume • Lots of resources with samples • Retake ACT if needed– Send to NCAA/NAIA • Add sub scores for NCAA • Register with NCAA/NAIA Clearinghouse if you haven’t (use Checklist on website) • Send transcripts
