How do I know what to teach? Ask: What 2-3 strategies do I highlight during the Interactive Read Aloud? What book will help me deliver these strategies?
How do I select a text? Ask: What do my kids already know? What are my kids practicing now? What new learning do I want to focus on?
How do I select a text? Read! Find a handful of books that will help draw out the work you want students to do. Remember some books “pop out” more strategies than others.
How do I plan the lesson? Ask: How do I want to introduce the book? When do I Think Aloud? When do I have students Turn and Talk? Am I teaching strategies in a way that can be transferred to other texts?
