Pearls • Leadership must commit to making patient safety a top priority. • Safety Culture is the “underpinning” for all improvement work. • Senior Management buy-in is critical, but frontline staff need to be empowered to drive both patient safety initiatives and improvement work. • Frontline staff need to understand and be able speak up when they have a concern, and to use safety culture tools such as SBAR, huddles and debriefs.
