Our agency was an integrated preschool provider to 9 districts and one county Legislative Changes were mandating the schools to provide the services De institutionalization was beginning
MN DD Council issued an RFP for community employment research in the provider world Decided to try it as a NON BELIEVER “this really wasn’t possible without lots of free labor like grad students” We wrote a joint grant with day center and sheltered workshop
Unbelievable that our clients liked working outside our 4 walls better than inside. This one year grant started us on an adventure to community employment any way we could figure out how to do it.
1990 National Rural Demonstration Conversion of Day Services to Community Employment Robert Dole Foundation with assistance from the Washington Business Group • Closed Facility all working in community
1991 MN OSERS Conversion Grant Dodge County Convert Day Services with Merger between 2 providers. Conversion completed building sold.
Emergency State RFP • 1999 Failed Workshop • 30 days to start services • Conversion completed in six months (175 clients)
Cost • $125,000 Grants • Dislocated Worker Grant • McKnight Foundation
