Electrical Circuits Open, Closed, Series, and Parallel
Open and Closed Circuits • Open • The switch is OFF and electricity cannot flow from one wire to another • Closed • The switch is ON and electricity can flow from one wire to another.
Parallel Circuit • A type of circuit with or more than one conducting path. Each path has its own loop. • If one path one resistor is not working, the other will still be able to flow electricity. • Both diagram illustrate parallel circuits. There are two paths electricity could travel.
Series Circuits • A type of circuit with only one conducting path. Everything is connected in one continuous loop. • If one resistor is not working the other resistors in the series will also not work.

Energy Source Batteries are a source of energy that when a device is connected — a light bulb or an electric circuit — chemical reactions occur on the electrodes that create a flow of electrical energy to the device. 25% of the battery is made up of steel. ... 60% of the battery is made up of a combination of materials like zinc, manganese and potassium. Electrons are negatively charged, so they will be attracted to the positive end of a battery and repelled by the negative end. When the battery is hooked up to a device that lets the electrons flow through it, they flow from negative (anode) to positive (cathode) terminal.
Wires The wires in a circuit need to be made out of something that electricity can pass through. A conductor is something that electricity can pass through easily. Metals are usually good conductors, so most wires are made out of copper. Around the wire is usually a plastic covering. Plastic is an insulator, and it is used so the electricity does not go anywhere besides through the wire.
Resistor The light bulb has a special filament, this filament has a high resistance (which means it takes a lot of energy to make it work). A material has a high resistance when it makes it difficult for electricity to flow. The flow of electric charges heats up the filament and the filament emits light.
Switch A switch is a tool made of metal that allows electricity to flow when connected in the closed position. Closed Open
