    2. The trees danced and waved in the wind. Personification—the tree branches looked like they were waving and dancing because of the way they moved back and forth when the wind blew

    3. Six snakes scrambled through the sand Alliteration—the “s” sound is repeated at the beginning of several words

    4. She ran as fast as a cheetah. Simile—compares the girl and the cheetah; they are both fast. Uses “like” so must be a simile

    5. Nancy’s sand castle was the best. Consonance—the “s” sound is repeated within several words

    6. The snow was a blanket covering the rolling hills Metaphor---the snow is being compared to a blanket; a blanket covers a person while the snow covered the hills

    7. For the children they mark, and the children they know Repetition– this emphasizes that the children are who know the location and importance of the place

    8. It was so cold the blood froze in my veins Hyperbole—This exaggerates the cold. The blood does not literally freeze, but it is very cold.

    9. The green leaf fell from the tree Assonance—The long “e” sound is repeated in several words

    10. If you should ever choose To bath an armadillo Use one bar of soap And a whole lot of hope And seventy-two pads of Brillo. Rhyme scheme—a b c c b

    11. The leaves crunched under my feet as I walked through the woods. Onomatopoeia—the sound the leaves made was a “crunch.” The word sounds like the noise that was made when walking over the leaves
