She was born July 7, 1910. She was born close to the beginning of the Mexican revolution.
Freda suffered life long health problems. Many of her health problems were the result of a traffic accident she survived as a teenager.
She used her art to tell a story about her self. She used symbolic images in her art to deal with emotion.
Through her art, she portrayed monkeys as tender and protective symbols.
Kahlo once said, "I paint myself because I am so often alone and because I am the subject I know best.”
Of her 143 paintings, 55 are self-portraits which often incorporate symbolic portrayals of physical and psychological wounds.
