Background • SCDE seeks to simplify access to state, district, and school resources for students, parents, teachers, and school administrators through a simple cloud-based portal solution (single sign-on). • Teachers store lesson plans in multiple ways and there is no efficient and seamless way to access all of the media, content, and digital resources they use within a class. • Schools and districts across the state run a variety of applications. SCDE seeks to equalize the access districts have to content and software by housing access to those applications in a cloud-based solution to save time for everyone in accessing those tools.
Priorities • There are five priorities that SCDE seeks to fulfill through this project: • Single Sign-on – A single platform to allow consumers of educational services to access content through one login and password. • Role Setup and Access to Content and Resources – role-based access to tools in the platform (ex. Parent login to PowerSchool). • Learning Management System – A simple solution to allow teachers to store and deliver content to their students in the form of media files, pictures, formative assessments, presentations, etc. (Flipped Classroom Models) • Marketplace – Equal access for all districts regardless of size to find and utilize high quality digital resources. • Content Repository – Students and educators often create their own content and store it in a variety of ways (Dropbox, Google Docs, external hard drives, etc), so the content repository will provide a location to store their content and access it through the cloud based on their rights and access that they have in the system.
Learning Management System Learning Management System (LMS) A software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of online education courses or training programs. An LMS should consist of the following components:
