Introduction Our solar system contains one star, nine planets, 61 moons, thousands of asteroids, billons of meteoroids and comets. In our solar system there is something called a asteroid belt. The asteroid belt separates the inner planets from the outter planets. The inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and mars. Also the outter planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. There is a lot to know about our universe.
The sun It would require about 333,000 Earths to equal the sun’s mass. But more than a million Earths could fit inside it. The surface of the sun is about 9900 degrees Fahrenheit. Also the core of the sun is about 27million degrees Fahrenheit. WARNING do not look at the sun directly thought a telescope or binoculars. If you do it will damage your eyes permanently.
Mercury Because mercury orbits so close to the sun, it’s surface can reach 801 degrees Fahrenheit. But without much of an atmosphere to trap the heat, nighttime temperatures on mercury can go up to 279 below 0. It take 59 earth day for mercury to complete 1 rotation. Also the average distance from the sun is 57,900,000 km.
Venus Venus is the second planet from the sun and the closest planet to Earth. It is named after The Roman Goddess of love and beauty, but it's extremely hot and deadly atmosphere makes it impossible for any human or astronaut to explore it's surface. The diameter of Venus is about 7,520 miles which is about 400 miles smaller than that of Earth. It takes 243 days for Venus to make a full rotation. And it takes 224 days for Venus to orbit around the sun.
Earth Earth is the planet we know the best. Earth has five layers in its atmosphere, the first layer is called Troposphere. The second layer is the stratosphere. The third layer is the mesosphere. The fourth layer is called the thermosphere. The last layer is called the exosphere. The earth is 197 million square miles, about 70 percent of the Earth's surface is covered with water.

Mars • Mars has the largest canyon in the solar system. It would reach from Los Angeles to Chicago if it was on Earth! Mars has a very thin atmosphere, mostly carbon dioxide, but dust storms can cover the whole planet for months at a time. About every two years the Earth and Mars come close together. A year on mars 687 earth days and the length of a day is 24 hrs, 37 min. the average distance from the sun is 227,900,000 km away
the asteroid belt • The asteroid belt lies between Mars and Jupiter. It contains lumps of rock much smaller than planets. These lumps are called asteroids or minor planets. They are not visible from Earth with the naked eye, but many may be seen through binoculars or small telescopes.
Jupiter Jupiter takes about 12 years to orbit the sun and rotates in about 10 hours. Unlike the rocky planets, Jupiter is a ball of dense hydrogen, helium, water, nitrogen and other gases over a tiny rocky core. Believe it or not Jupiter has rings. For Jupiter the length of a day is 9hrs, 55 min. Also the length of a year on Jupiter is 11.86 Earth years. The average orbit speed is 13 km per sec. The average distance form the sun is 778,300,00 km.
Saturn Saturn is the second largest planet. Only Jupiter is larger. Saturn has seven thin, flat rings around it. Saturn's diameter at its equator is 74,600 miles which is almost ten times that of Earth. The planet can be seen from Earth but its rings cannot. Saturn's rings are made up of billions of pieces of rocks and dust. The atmosphere of Saturn comprises mostly of Hydrogen and Helium. Uranus The icy planet Uranus is a smaller version of Jupiter and not the small rocky bodies like Earth. Uranus takes 84 years to orbit the sun. It rotates on its side and so half the time one pole is toward the sun and then the other making each of the four seasons last about 20 years. The length of a day is 17.3 hrs
Neptune • Blue Neptune is one of the solar system's gas giants. Unlike Earth, gas giants are mostly hydrogen, helium, and methane gases. The methane gas on Neptune gives the planet its blue color . Length of a year: 165 Earth years Average orbit speed: 5.4 km per sec Average distance from the sun: 4,504,000,000 km
Pluto • Pluto is a small rocky object that lies at the very edge of the solar system. The planet is so far out it takes light from the sun about 5 and one half hours to reach Pluto in contrast to the 8 minutes it takes to reach Earth. Pluto is so cold that nitrogen and oxygen, which we breathe so easily on Earth, become frozen solid. conclusion • There are more planets in the universe then we can even image. There are some planets out there with life that we do not even no about. OK, think of it like this man have not set foot on any other planet except the moon. Now how in the world do you think man would create a ship to go to other planets even out of our solar system.
