Location (LOC) A. Genes with similar functions will be located close to one another on a chromosome. • Ex) Chromosome 11 Olfactory Cluster
B. Gene Linkage • Chromosomes cross over during Prophase I of Meiosis • At this time genes can become separated and placed on a different chromosome • Creates genetic Variability • Genes are assigned to Linkage Groups a. The closer 2 genes are to one another, the more likely they will stay together b. Therefore, we say that linked genes are inherited together.
