  4. Daily Schedule ~ Math ~ Specials ~ Science/Social Studies ~ Lunch/Recess from 12:00-12:40 ~ Reading/Language/Spelling Specials Monday Music 10:55-11:40 Tuesday Gym 10:55-11:40 Wednesday Health 11:00-11:30 Thursday Art 10:55-11:40 Friday Library 10:25-10:55

  5. District Grading Policy 50% = TESTS 40% = CLASSWORK/QUIZZES 10% = HOMEWORK ~ The same scale is used for all subject areas. ~ Report cards are computerized and issued four times per year. A+ =100 -98 C = 79 - 77 A = 97 - 95 C- = 76 - 74 A- = 94 - 92 D+ = 73 - 71 B+ = 91 - 89 D = 70 - 68 B = 88 - 86 D- = 67 - 65 B- = 85 - 83 F = 64 - BELOW C+ = 82 - 80

Math ~ In math we will cover place value, number sense, money,graphing, geometry, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. ~ Practice with basic facts is extremely beneficial. ~ Problem solving is STRONGLY emphasized and writing is also an important component of math. ~ Students will occasionally have a quiz and a test on each chapter. ~ Homework will usually be assigned Monday-Thursday. ~ Program is available online.

  7. Social Studies ~ Students will learn about communities, map skills, cultures around the world, and U.S. government. ~ Students will make note cards for important vocabulary words. PLEASE REVIEW nightly. ~ Students will take 1 to 3 open book quizzes and one test per chapter. ~ Homework is usually assigned on the night before a test. Students may NOT use a homework pass.

  8. Science • ~ In science we will focus on the following topics: plants, animals, Earth’s resources, and the forces that shape our land. • ~ There are a lot of experiments and demonstrations. • ~ Students will make note cards for important vocabulary words. PLEASE REVIEW nightly. • ~ Students will take open book quizzes and tests. • ~ Homework is usually assigned on the night before a test. Students may NOT use a homework pass.

  9. Reading, Language, & Spelling ~ New seriespublished by Pearson (Scott Foresman) ~ Integrated Reading, Language, and Spelling ~ Each unit consists of five stories, five language skills, and five spelling lists. ~ Writing is emphasized throughout the program. ~ Program is available online.

  10. *Assignment Book* ~Test schedule is stapled in on Friday for the following week. ~Please check each night. ~Each student is responsible for copying his/her own assignments every day and bringing it back and forth to school.

  11. Homework Policy ~ Homework is assigned four nights a week (Monday through Thursday). ~ Homework accounts for 10% of your child’s grade. Homework Folder ~ Students should keep all worksheets that they complete for homework in this folder until we correct them in class. ~Students will have a Ziploc bag with note cards for social studies and science that they should keep in this folder. When wefinish a chapter, please remove the note cards from the bag. ~ It is important to review note cards each night.

  12. Take Home Folder ~ This folder should contain all papers that have been completed and checked. ~ This folder will contain any notes that go home and notes that should come back to school. ~ Please empty this folder every night. ~ Any money sent into school should be placed in this folder in an envelope or Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it! **Less clutter = a more organized student**

  15. Before you go… Please write a note to your child in their Journal. 2.Sign up for parent-teacher conferences and take a reminder note! Thanks so much for coming…I look forward to a great year! 
