BELGIUM: WHERE ETCS IS A PRIORITY 1.2 Timeline of ETCS deployment STEP 1 STEP 3 Overview of ETCS migrationstrategy – keymilestones Goal achieved: all railway traffic ETCS protected Current situation: Further deployment of TBL1+ andETCS level 1 Entire network equipped with ETCS 2014 2015 2022 2025 2030 2035 TO BE DECIDED STEP 4 STEP 2 • TBL1+ program completed Network accessible for ETCS-equipped trains only • Entire network equipped with ETCS level 2 • TBL 1+, a first step to ETCS • A system which controls the speed of the train 300 m ahead of the signal. • Speed > 40km/h, then the train’s emergency brake is applied. • The train passes the sign, then it will be brought to a complete stop. BELGIUM: WHERE ETCS IS A PRIORITY 1.4 The relation between risk covering & global project cost • Overall approachaccording to the expectedevolutionbetween 2010 and 2022 : • Number of train-kmtravelled: + 28% • Number of passengers: + 30% • Network scope: + 7% • The Master Plan presents approximately the samesafety risk as ETCS Full Supervision • The Master Plan plans torealise the entire project using2.679 M€ lessthan ETCS Full Supervision Right on Track towards a safe & interoperable Europe
