What is unique about the East? • There are over 20 developmental paediatricians and child psychiatrists practising in the EMR as well as several Psychologists and Speech pathologists in Private Practice undertaking diagnosis • SCS, DDC at Monash and Austin, Community Health Centres, Irabina, Illoura, CAMHS at Monash and Box Hill CAMHS(Tertiary) all do assessments
Paediatricians and Private Practioners • Usually act as the “Case Manager” throughout childhood. • Paediatricians are often the first port of call to screen for other conditions • They then refer out to private/public services
How to get paediatricians involved • We ran a Paediatrician’s Breakfast with MOPP points • We provided food and good coffee • Raised diagnostic dilemmas • Gave plenty of notice and all said they would come again
Paediatricians need: • Feedback on what is happening to children referred. • Updates on progress • Generally to be kept in the loop
