Scaling Up Male Circumcision in Tanzania • Jhpiego, in collaboration with the MOHSW and other development partners, is working to scale up MC for HIV prevention. • Jhpiego has been appointed a technical lead organization for piloting MC for HIV prevention services in Tanzania and is piloting service scale-up in Iringa region. • HIV counseling and testing is part of the WHO minimum package for MC for HIV prevention.

  3. HIV Counseling and Testing Uptake: Pilot and Campaign Pilot Phase – 98% June 21 to July 7 – Campaign Phase – 99.8%

  4. HIV Testing Uptake during MC Is Higher in Tanzania than Other Countries. Why? • HIV testing is opt-out rather than opt-in, which is found in most countries. • Good national environment for HIV testing: • National testing campaign 2 years ago set the stage • MC clients tend to be younger and less afraid of testing HIV-positive • MC offered in sites where HIV treatment is available • Counselors have received additional MC-specific training
