  1. LODI UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT2013 Mid-Year Gains Analysis Data reflects implementation by 2/13/13 export

  2. Analysis Contents • Section 1Executive Summary • Section 2 READ 180 Student Performance Results • Section 3 System 44 Student Performance Results

  3. Executive Summary • Program Implementation • During the 2012-2013 school year, the district implemented both READ 180 and System 44 across 18 schools throughout the district • 5 Elementary Schools: Needham, Beckman, Washington, Sutherland, Lawrence • 7 Middle Schools: Christa McAuliffe, Delta Sierra, Houston, Lodi, Millswood, Morada, Lockeford • 6 High Schools: Bear Creek, Lodi, McNair, Tokay, Plaza Robles, Liberty • The middle and high schools started the program in 2011-2012 school year • The elementary schools started the program in 2012-2013 school year • Indicators of Success • 384 of 1,043 (37%) of READ 180 students demonstrated at least one year’s reading growth on Scholastic Reading Inventory (SRI) • Of those READ 180 students, 127 (12%) demonstrated at least two years’ reading growth on SRI • 249 of 439 (57%) of System 44 students demonstrated at least one year’s growth on Scholastic Phonics Inventory (SPI) Fluency • 51 of 519 (10%) of System 44 students demonstrated at least one year’s growth on SRI • Data Included in Analysis • Lodi’s Gains Analysis includes student results from 7/30/12 to 2/13/13. To be included in the analysis, student records must: • Include at least 6 sessions (days) of software usage • Include at least two SRI tests, administered at least 6 weeks apart (READ 180 & System 44) • Include at least two SPI tests, administered at least 6 weeks apart (System 44)

  4. READ 180 Student Performance Results

  5. READ 180Super StarsTop 10 • Data indicate 371 READ 180 Super Stars with evidence of both strong participation and Lexile Gains. The top 10 are shown above. • To reach “Reading Super Star” status, student’s must have: • Include at least 20 sessions (days) of software usage • Between1 and 4 year’s approximate grade level growth • Pre-Test SRI Lexile score of over 100L.

  6. READ 180Super StarsPercentage by School

  7. SRI Reading Gains READ 180 Mean Lexile Gains by Site

  8. Lexile Performance LevelsChanges in READ 180 Student SRI Performance

  9. System 44 Student Performance Results

  10. System 44 Super Stars Data indicate 32 System 44 Super Stars with evidence of both strong participation and Lexile Gains. The top 10 are shown above. To reach “Reading Super Star” status, student’s must have: • Include at least 20 sessions (days) of software usage • Between1 and 4 year’s approximate grade level growth • Pre-Test SRI Lexile score of over 100L.

  11. SPI Proficiency ResultsSystem 44 Student Decoding Status • Scholastic recommends that System 44 students complete the SPI three times a year for screening and progress monitoring. Students included in this analysis completed at least two SPI tests. Students should be moving into higher levels of decoding as they progress through the program.

  12. SRI Proficiency ResultsChanges in System 44 Student SRI Performance • Scholastic recommends that System 44 students complete the SRI three to four times a year for screening and progress monitoring. Students included in this analysis completed at least two SRI tests at least 6 weeks apart. Results are positive when lower, non-proficient reader populations decline and higher, proficient reader populations increase. Students with low-level phonemic awareness likely are operating under the SRI Lexile scale.

  13. Lodi USD Implementation Support Summary

  14. Recommendations • Continue full implementation of READ 180 at secondary schools • Continue coaching and cadre meeting support for READ 180 teachers • Expand elementary implementation at: • Beckman, Needham, Lawrence, Sutherland, Washington

  15. Recommendations • Elementary expansion schools: Ansel Adams Borchardt Clairmont Creekside Davis Oakwood Mosher Nichols Wagner Holt Westwood • Initial investment of approximately $500,000 from categorical funds. Subsequent year cost are nominal.

  16. Recommendations • Consider replacing Language! with READ 180 as a replacement core at grades 4-6 and SDC students
