Question Mode Interface – Student and Teacher versions • Two toolbars • Main toolbar - contains question operating functions • Editing toolbar – used to answer questions with text, numbers, equations or structures www.orchem.ca
Question Mode Interface • Three windows • Problem description window – displays the question • Results window – displays responses to answers given by user • Answer grid window – where the user inputs the answer to a question www.orchem.ca
Edit Mode Interface • Three toolbars • Main toolbar – contains all main functions • Editing toolbar – used to edit questions • Nodes toolbar – contains all the nodes needed to create and edit dialogue graph • Nodes scroll list • Contains a list of all primary nodes that make up a question • Two Windows • Text editing window • Picture/structure editing window www.orchem.ca
OrChem Question Construction • Made up of primary and secondary nodes • Primary nodes – define the meaning of the secondary nodes, e.g.. Question, wrong answer, right answer etc. • Secondary nodes – contain actual information in the form of text, structures, pictures, animations or music • Nodes are connected with arrows and lines creating a dialogue graph www.orchem.ca
OrChem assigns a negative and positive mark to every wrong and right response given by the user respectively • Common wrong answers are contained in the graph dialogue and used to give students constructive responses to help them answer the question correctly • Every students path through a question is unique and depends on the answers they give www.orchem.ca
Question vary in complexity • Question may consist of several parts • Number and types of wrong responses are editable www.orchem.ca
Easier question may be used to guide students to the correct answer www.orchem.ca
Detailed hints create a tutorial like environment giving step by step guidance through a question www.orchem.ca
Interactive periodic table of elements • Color coded for easy identification • Lists data on every element including specific heat, melting point and electro-negativity www.orchem.ca
Marks Organizer • Organizes students marks from completed questions • Marks saved in an encrypted file accessible only with the full version of OrChem • Keeps track of names, student IDs, time and date question completed etc. • Information can be exported to CSV and Excel www.orchem.ca
