1. PENECOST SUNDAY June1, 2014 It is after the Ascension. The remaining apostles “have kept the Father’s word”; “they have believed that the Father sent Jesus.” They witness to the Father’s glory by enacting their own sort of “triumphal” entry into Jerusalem redolent of Christ’s on Palm Sunday. It was triumphant “when they entered the city” because the Eleven were deeply united in faith and charity, resolved to do the will of the Father. It is not a coincidence the way that their actions mimic those of the Savior: they go to the upper room and there devote themselves to prayer with one accord. As a result of this conviction, persecution is soon to follow, but they will rejoice to the extent that they share in the sufferings of Christ. and rising, his ascension to the Father, his gift of the Spirit. // In that hour Jesus prays for his disciples, for all those who believe in him, that they may share in his glory. But sharing in his glory means participating in the totality of that “hour”. Disciples of Jesus join in his sufferings and so come to share in his glory (1 Pet 4:13). // Jesus has glorified the Father by finishing his work. Those who belong to him remain in the world, proclaiming the good news that the work of Jesus bestows eternal life. “Eternal life is this: to know you, the only true God, and him whom you have sent, Jesus Christ” (John 17:3). Jesus prays for those to whom he has entrusted the message (cf. Acts 1:12-14), but not for them alone. He prays also for all who will believe in him through their word (John 17:20). // This Sunday presents a commission. We must welcome our share in Jesus’ hour, both the suffering and the glory. We must join in Jesus’ work, that all may be one. He has brought eternal life; he has revealed the Father’s name. Through us he continues to reveal it so that the Father’s love may live in all and he may live in all (John 17:26). ST. Pray in good times and in bad.  Prayer is always the first best option in any situation. Pray for friends and family and for those that may not treat you very well.
