Purpose of the Program • The purpose of the English as a Secondary Language program is to teach and advocate for English Learners so they can become successful within our community both socially and academically.
Service Delivery Model • Utilizing the W-apt screening tool, identified ELL students are provided direct English language instruction in the areas of reading, speaking, listening and writing. • The elementary EL student receives 30 or 60 minutes of direct language instruction as well as RtI tiered support. Secondary students receive one or two class period equivalents of language instruction. ELL summer school is offered for grades K-6.
Program Deployment Status • Services are well deployed, although deployment may vary in some areas or schools.
Progress Toward Previous Program Goal GOAL: Park Hill will annually meet 100% of all federal compliance requirements as measured by DESE self monitoring checklist. OBJECTIVE: The program will meet federal compliance requirements. RESULTS: The annual self- monitoring report was 100% compliant.
Progress Toward Previous Program Goal GOAL: Students in the ESL Program will obtain the English language proficiency they need to be academically successful in the regular classroom. OBJECTIVE: Park Hill ELL students will score 25% above the Missouri level for ELL students on Missouri’s annual LAS Links language proficiency assessment. RESULTS: Park Hill had 44% students score proficient or above on the LAS Links assessment. This met our goal of being at least 25% higher than the state percent proficient.
Progress Toward Previous Program Goal OBJECTIVE: At least 40% of Park Hill ELL students will score Proficient on the MAP Communication Arts test. RESULTS: The goal was not met at 36.73%. The trend of proficient students on MAP Communication Arts is improving from 26.3% in 2008-09 to 36.73% in 2009-10.
