"If you want to send a message, call Western Union." Sam Goldwyn “Music can’t change the world.” Neil Young
Dialogical Cultural Transmission A perpetual chain of social and cultural cause and effectplays a central role in how societies and individuals define themselves and how as social animals we define the necessary normative codes of acceptable behaviour that make social living possible. Emotion is not possible without thought - without a system of ideas. “Entertainment” is not and can never be, ‘content neutral’. Content may be banal but it is always there. ’Hegenomy’ is the system of thought that is regarded as ‘normal’, as self-evident, as common-sense. (Example: love & Sex) To put it simply the arts do change the world whether or not that is the aim of the artist.
