Format • Topics presented in two week units • Mathematics –advanced topics linked to topics taught in middle school • Education –standards based curriculum, classroom based research, and internet and technology resources • Online class sessions, synchronous or asynchronous • Live virtual office hours and chats
Pre-requisite: Certified middle school teacher with either multi-subject or math certification, minimum of 6-9 hours of math or math education.
ACT Paradigm: • Active Assignment • Conceptual Class session • Talk Together about session
ACT Paradigm: • ASSIGNMENT Active reading involves: • Focus questions for the reading that will stress key concepts and skills to be mastered. • Focus problems assigned to assess conceptual understanding and skill acquisition. A quiz over skills and concepts will be posted on Vista WebCT. The Quiz must be completed by the following Friday. • A forum will be established on VistaWebCT for discussion about the focus questions.
ACT Paradigm: • CLASS SESSION (Math 2 contact hours, C&I 1 contact hour): Teachers can attend the session live via Connect or can watch the recorded session.
ACT Paradigm: • TALK TOGETHER: about Discussion Session (1 contact hour): On Thursday evening a synchronous (live) session will be held which all participants must attend. The focus of this session will be discussion of the readings and review of questions over Monday’s class session.
