10. Guide #2 Give a choice only when you are prepared to leave the choice up to the child.
Choices are legitimate
Increasing maturity = increasing choices
Only offer a choice when you plan to follow through
Offer 2 alternatives. Do you want to wear the red shirt or the blue shirt today?

11. Guide #3 Use your voice as a teaching tool.
Myth: Louder we speak, greater chance of controlling behavior
FACT: Move closer to child & use a softer voice. (Key words: softer & closer)
Article: Your voice can make or break a relationship
Speak firmly, directly & slowly
Watch tone of voice
Negative Examples: yelling; shouting across playground; sing-song voice
12. Guide #4 Avoid trying to change behavior by methods that may lead to loss of self respect.
Step 1: eliminate destructive patterns: gestures, expression, tone of voice & words that convey shame

Turn childs attention to an activity that has equal value as an interest or outlet

Read aloud your groups guide using the cardstock copy of your guide.
Using your groups guides overhead, neatly print the THREE most important points classmates should know about your guide.
19. Then create a skit/scenario
The first skit should demonstrate how to use the guide incorrectly
Then do the same skit, except this time it should demonstrate how to use the guide correctly
Everyone in your group needs to participate!
