Metaphor • Comparing two things without using like or as; something is something as. • Example: She is a dog when she is hungry.
Hyperbole • Using exaggeration to make a point. • Example: Her brain is the size of a pea.
Onomatopoeia • Sound word • Example: The bird in the tree went chirp-chirp.
Alliteration • Repetition of beginning sounds. • Example: The red eyed rabbit ran right by me.
Personification • Giving human qualities to something that’s not human. • Example: The horse shook hands with me.
Idiom • A well known expression that does not mean what it says. • Example: A taste of his own medicine.
