Characteristics • The Spanish educational system is structured in two kinds of education: • General education (habitual and related to the ages of students); • Specialized education (Languages, Arts and Design, and Sports). The education form 6 to 16 ages is free and compulsory. • It’s provided in 3 kinds of centres/institutes: • Public centres; • Semi private centres (partially financed by the Government: they have to respect the same laws, school calendars, programs and organization of the public one. Their usual cost is about 100€ per student); • Private centres (they have a free organization and an usual cost of about 400€ per student).

  3. Students from 14 to 18 years old • Students from 14 years old to 18: • Secondary compulsory Education (ESO) – 2 years; • Higher Education (Bachillerato) – 2 years; • Vocational Training Cycles – Middle Grade; • Arts, Design and Sports Studies.

Plans carried out by the Spanish Ministry of Education: Tutorial Action Plans and Academic / Vocational Guidance: Teachers carry out a guidance and tutorial activity with their pupils/parents in the academic and vocational fields. Curriculum Diversification Plans: Curriculum proposals (coherent with the common curriculum) for pupils in difficult conditions, to prevent their academic failure. Attention to Diversity Plans: Measures aimed at paying attention to pupils and their personal and social/cultural conditions to prevent their academic failure. Social Educator Action Plans: The social educator is aimed to the prevention and monitoring of the academic failure, education for health, entertainment, social skills, harassment between pupils, etc.

Plans carried out by the Spanish Ministry of Education (2): Initial Vocational Qualification Plans: Measure aimed at acquiring the needed competences in order to promote students’ social, educational and labour insertion and lifelong learning. Labour Orientation and Training: Module belonging to Vocational Training Cycles – Middle Grade and I.V.Q. Plans. For what? To provide training about labour risks prevention, labour legislation, searching for job techniques and labour insertion.

  8. General view of the Spanish Vocational Training System 1. OfferTraining: • Training plans for workers; • Training actions for unemployed people. Objective: to provide training to workers or unemployed people, adapted to the needs of labour market, productiveness and competitiveness of companies and the professional objectives of the target group. 2. Demand Training: • Training actions of companies; • Individual permissions for training. This kind of training responds to the specific needs established by companies and workers. It can be totally or partially financed by Publics founds.

  9. General view of the Spanish Vocational Training System (2) • 3. Training in alternation with job: • Training actions; • Labour and training public programs. • This kind of training allows to make compatible workers’ training and job. Target group: workers and unemployed people. • 4. Support and accompanying actions for training: • General and sectorialanalyses; • Research and innovation actions; • Information and professional orientation. • This kind of actions allow to improve the effectiveness of the system.
