  2. What Is A Gantt Chart? • A project planning tool that is used mostly by project managers. • A Gantt chart is a graphical representation of the duration of tasks against the progression of time.

Information About Gantt Charts • Developed by Henry Laurence Gantt (1861-1919) • Mechanical Engineer, Management Consultant and an Industry Advisor • A visual tool to show scheduled and actual progress of projects • Used during the construction of the Hoover Dam and the Interstate Highway network

  4. What a Gantt Chart Looks Like • Each task takes up one row • Dates in increments of days, weeks or months runs along the top or bottom of the chart • Duration of tasks is represented by a horizontal bar • No more than 15 or 20 tasks

  5. Gantt Charts • Simple • Can easily be done in Excel when there are a few tasks • Complex • More detailed Gantt charts that are used by project managers are done using Microsoft Project or other professional project software
