Made In Alaska Program Presented at the MADE IN ALASKA WORKSHOPS 2005
What is Made In Alaska ? • State of Alaska program to identify products that are manufactured or hand crafted in Alaska using materials of local origin when possible. • Issues permits to use the state’s registered “Mother Bear & Cub” logo to those who qualify and pay an annual fee of $25. State Seal of Approval
What Else Do You Do? • As part of the certification process we often conduct on-site inspections to certify that the products are produced in accordance with the law to quality for a Made In Alaska permit. • We periodically check retail establishments, craft fairs and trade shows to find any misuse of the logo.
Manufacturer of the Year • We select one permit holder a year as our Made In Alaska Manufacturer of the Year. This year we awarded this prestige award for 2004 to The Alaska Rag Company while at our Fairbanks Workshop.
Information for Permit Holders • Each quarter “Made In Alaska Newsletter” is mailed (soon emailed) to all permit holders, many of the state’s retailers and others. This publication is full of information directed to the needs of permit holders and retailers. • Flyers or postcards are occasionally used to notify permit holders of opportunities or important information.
Workshops • Each year the Program Manager/Agent and others present workshops throughout the state highlighting Made In Alaska activities and focusing on subjects of interest to permit holders, i.e. Marketing, Internet, Cost Containment, etc. • This year we conducted nine of these workshops.
