2. Class 9th Science - Matter in our surrounding In our last article for Class 9 we have studied about Matter and it characteristics. So the next topic in 9th Class science syllabus is classification of Matter s Solid Liquid and Gas. On the basis of physical states Matter can be classifies as Solids, Liquid and gas Eg:-Rock, Cold Drink, CNG Cylinder, table, Glass, Cup, book, cooking oil, milk, juice.

3. Class 9th Science - Matter in our surrounding So now we as per 9th class science syllabus we are going to discuss this classification for better understanding. Solid State:-If we will look around we will find many things around us which are rigid, having definite shape and volume and does not change their shape very easily, they all are Solids. Even if you are reading this content on your laptop or mobile it is also one of the examples of solid. When applied force solid can break but it is very difficult to change their shape. Characteristics of Solid:- • Fixed Shape and definite volume • Cannot be compressed • High density • Do not flow

4. Class 9th Science - Matter in our surrounding Liquid State: -if I take 100 ml water in a glass and transfer the samein a dish and measure the quantity it will be same. But water will acquire the shape of container. Hence we can conclude that liquid has the definite volume but no fixed shape. Characteristics of Liquid:- • Fixed volume but no fixed shape • Cannot be compressed much • Moderate to high densities • Flow easily GaseousState:-A cylinder is filled by gas, when the same gas is filled in balloon hundreds of balloon can be filled with the same gas in cylinder. Hence we conclude that gases are compressible and can change their shape and volume easily.

Class 9th Science - Matter in our surrounding Characteristics of Gas:- • No fixed shape nor fixed volume • Can be compared easily • Very low density • Flow easily So Dear 9th class Science students we have studied the characteristics of Solid, Liquid & Gas now we will understand why solid,Liquid& Gas have different properties We will now learn why do the properties differ for solid,liquid and Gas so this is because of the kinetic theory of Matter.

6. Class 9th Science - Matter in our surrounding “According to the kinetic theory of matter, the particles of matter are in continuous motion and possess kinetic energy”. As we have studied in last article that matter is made up of small particles which are connected by force of attraction and are in movement constantly. So we conclude that following properties decide the state of matter:- • The Space between the particle-Solid have minimum space in their particles, a liquid has little more and maximum in gas. • The force of attraction between particle:-Solids have strongest force of attraction between the particles, little weak in liquids and negligible in gas. • Movement of particles:-Movement of particles is minimum in solids, more in liquid and maximum in gas. So above points define the structure of solid, liquid and gas. State of Matter can be changed in certain situations this we will discuss in our next article.
