  1. Though Intel has a corner on the market AMD has been moving in. In June of 2005 AMD launched an antitrust suit against Intel on the grounds that Intel was using scare tactics and coercion on 38 companies to keep AMD out of the loop. AMD vs. Intel Background: Intel and AMD make processing chips for computers. Intel has a corner on 80% of the market running x86-based chips. Intel can be found in computers running Windows, Solaris, Linux, and Apple. AMD is using information attained in a case in Japan, where Intel was found giving discounts to Fujitsu, Hitachi, NEC, Sony and Toshiba if they stopped and/or limited their purchases' of AMD processors. AMD also has information from former Compaq CEO Michael Capellas that says that Intel with held chips until Compaq stop buying AMD processors. AMD is Intel’s only real competitor. Thus, it is the only reason Intel doesn’t have a monopoly on the processor market, so they will never try to eliminate AMD. This doesn’t mean that Intel doesn’t want to own all but 1% of the market.
