Overview • 5 freshman recruited to the University of Michigan • All African American • Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King, Juwan Howard, Ray Jackson • By the end of the season they were all starting • They were completely different then all of the other players • Reached national championship game as freshman and sophomores 91’, 92’ • Webber calls timeout when the team has none and costs them the game • Webber left after sophomore year, has disconnected with teammates

  3. Dynamics of the Fab Five • Diversity • Tuckman’s Theory • Conflict • Energy Bus • Leadership

  4. Diversity • White mans game • Changed the game and paved the way for African Americans • Older players taking a back seat to the freshman • Having to take criticism for what the Fab Five got into • Completely different personalities then the other players on the team

Tuckmans Theory • Forming • Was all over the news and they were watched by everyone • Storming • Most of the first season they were in this stage • Clashed heads a lot • Performing • Reached this stage for brief moments but never maintained it for the entire season • Adjourning • There was no fairy tail ending • Webber left on bad terms and refused to be apart of the documentary

Conflict Resoluton • Older players not wanted to take a bock seat at first • Realizing it was better for the team • Banners removed and wins taken away due to players receiving money • Chris Webber played the main roles in this conflict and many others • “Playboy” • Most conflicts were worked through by team • After the 93’ championship game the conflict was never resolved

  7. Energy Bus • Each player drove their own bus • Not all busses were headed in the same direction • Chris Webbers bus took and sharp left turn and never came back • Players did excellent job keeping negative passengers off bus • Kept bus going through all the criticism

  8. Leadership • Chris Webber came in as the leader being the highest ranked freshman (#1) • Jalen Rose emerged as the leader of the team keeping them together • Point guard of the team • Steve Fisher did a excellent job keeping team together through the hard times • Great leader

  9. My Family • Diversity in my family • Spread all over the country • Virtual Team

  10. Me and my bother have very different lifestyles • Fought as kids all the time • Parents would have to resolve our conflicts • Starting to get closer as we get older Family • Dad is leader of family • Very good as resolving conflicts • Opinion seeker Performing Stage
