Introduction • Several different electrical stimulation devices exist, each producing different frequencies, waveforms, and effects. Electrical modalities include • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) (the most commonly used) • Interferential Current (IFC) • Galvanic Stimulation (GS)
Definition • Electrotherapy is the use of electrical energy in the treatment of impairments of health and a conditions of abnormal functioning. It is basically composed of the use of electric currents, referred to as "Tesla currents", in therapeutic applications.
How Does The Device Work • Nerves carry messages from the brain to the muscles. They also carry messages from sensors back to the brain. • The outside of the nerve is positively charged. • That charge is lost when the top end of a nerve cell is stimulated.
Principle of Operation • How Electrotherapy device is used for pain control • patients are instructed to try different frequencies and intensities to find those that provide the best pain control for that individual. • Usually a couple of electrodes are used to connect the wanted current to the injury part.
