LT 1: What is LUSD’s Strategic Design? • The Strategic Design established a clear Mission for the district, defined the Core Values, the Guiding Principles to be used when making decisions, the Vision for the future and our Life Long Learning Standards to be developed in each of our learners. Developed by the community and adopted by the School Board, the implementation of the Strategic Design is transforming all schools in the district into standards-based schools in which all learners will reach high levels of academic and personal excellence with the opportunity to pursue the professional future of their choice.

LT 1: Strategic Design: Task • Using LUSD’s Strategic Design, answer the following questions: • What is the District’s Mission Statement? • What are the 10 Core Values? • Review the Beliefs/Guiding Principles for Students and Learning. Choose one that stands out the most to and explain why it is significant to you. • LUSD has a vision for Learning, Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Technology, Personnel, Leadership, and Stakeholders. How do these visions help shape the District into an institution that empowers and motivates all involved? • What are the 7 Life Long Learning Standards?

LT 2: The Structure of Education in California • The educational system in California consists of public and private schools within the state, including the public University of California, California State University, and California Community Colleges systems, private colleges and universities, and public and private elementary, middle, and high schools.

After that, they may continue to puruse a higher education by attending private or public instituttions, however, this education is not freeStudents in California begin and progress through the educational system in the following order: • Elementary School (K – 12)

LT 2: The Structure of Education in California • Students in California begin and progress through the educational system in the following order: • Elementary School (K – 6th) • Middle School (6th – 8th) or Junior High (7th – 8th) • High School (9th – 12th): upon successful completion, learners receive their High School Diploma

LT 2: The Structure of Education in California • Students in California begin and progress through the educational system in the following order: • Community College: learners are awarded an Associates Degree (AA or AS) upon successful completion of coursework • University (Public, Private): learners are awarded the following degrees upon successful completion of coursework (you do not need an AA or AS to begin at a University) • Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) (4 – 5 years after HS) • Masters Degree (2 – 3 years after BA/BS) • Doctorate Degree (2 – 4 years after Masters)
