  3. Introduction • Most elderly live in housing estates (HDB Flats) • The elderly have trouble moving around housing estates • There are insufficient facilities for the elderly to move around easily • In the area of housing, there can be improvements – Houses can be more accessible

  4. Reasons for our Research Question • Elderly had difficulties accessing the facilities in the housing estates (HDB) • Why? • What can we do to help them? • We wanted to allow them to make full use of the facilities provided for them • Some facilities were lacking

Methodology Surveys for the general public • Elderly themselves, Those that have an elderly in their family • Sample size of 22 consisting of 8 minors below 20, 10 adults and 4 elderly • At Bishan Bus Interchange, random survey Interview with someone who had exclusive knowledge on the topic: • Social worker in Ang Mo Kio • Ng Koon Sing

  6. Methodology (Survey) Objectives of survey: • Find out the general public's opinion on the accessibility level of the elderly in housing estates • Survey consisted of both MCQ questions and OEQ questions

Methodology (interview) • Sent an email to the Ang Mo Kio town council to check if Mr Lee Hsien Loong was available, but he was not. • Interview was carried out on 7 March 2012 • We interviewed social worker, Mr. Ng Koon Sing instead. • Deeper insight was needed into this topic on the elderly • The survey only covered breadth, but not depth

  11. Interview findings • Accessibility level of the elderly in Singapore is acceptable • Some elderly still face problems with travelling around their neighbourhood. • Shelter is an important factor
