  3. Luke 16:1-8 – The story We should be like that. Believers should emulate “the disposition, foresight, and savvy” of unbelievers “without adopting their morality”. TGNT Commentary p. 308

  4. Luke 16:9 – The point “Unrighteous mammon” NIV = “worldly wealth” Money and other material possessions. “Fail” Probably = die

  5. Luke 16:9 – The point We should use money and other possessions to build eternal friendships.

  7. Luke 16:9 – The point At least part of the reward is eternal relationships! How do you build those? Notice the theme of relieving indebtedness. 16:1-9

  8. Luke 16:9 – The point We build eternal relationships by… • Using money to care for unbelievers • Giving to missions/Christian organizations • Giving to church • Helping others materially, especially those who are in need spiritually

  9. Luke 16:9 – The point How are we at everyday things like… • Tipping? • Paying for the meals of unbelieving friends? • Helping those in need, especially those who are the focus of spiritual need?

  10. Luke 16:9 – The point We can help relieve the spiritual indebtedness of others by using our resources to build eternal relationships.

  11. Luke 16:11-12 – The possibilities It’s important to do this right! This does not mean… • Not taking care of our obligations • Doing this without knowledge and consent of significant persons in your life (spouse/parents)

  12. Luke 16:11-12 – The possibilities Money is unimportant eternally, but it can be eternally significant if used correctly. Matt. 6:19-21 – motivation! 1 Tim. 6:10, 17-19 – use money for eternal significance!

  14. Luke 16:11-12 – The possibilities Do we demonstrate such stewardship of our resources now that the Master can entrust greater responsibilities later in the Kingdom?

  15. Luke 16:13 – The impossibility A spiritual believer cannot have divided loyalties. Either make your money serve your purposes or you will serve money.

  17. Luke 16:13 – The impossibility There are many people who are indebted to God. We can build relationships in such a way as to bring them to Him. We can use money as an instrument to build eternal friendships!

  18. Luke 16:13 – The impossibility We can be agents of God to help relieve their indebtedness and create eternal relationships! Or is money too important to us to give up?
