History.. • R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, formerly the Black Singles Chart, is a chart released weekly by Billbord in the United States. • The chart initiated in 1942. It is used to track the success of popular music songs in urban, or African American venues. It dominated over the years at various times by jazz, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul, and funk etc. It is today dominated by contemporary R&B and hip hop.
Audience.. • Target audience for this type of genre is around 14 and above. This is because a lot of people at this age are interested in these types of music. Also these types of music are aimed to this age group. • For girls a lot of r&b songs relate to them because, for example, they may be going through a rough patch in their relationship so they look to artist like Beyonce for guides. • For boys a lot of hip hop music relate to them and their lives because artist like T.i for example are role models to boys today because he raps about how to ‘live your life’ in the right way.
