What is a rigorous literacy center? • Provides students with multiples opportunities to read and write • Engages students in meaningful experiences • Allows for collaboration to aid in reading comprehension • Supports improvement in reading comprehension, language, social, and writing development • Facilitates problem solving through exploration, discoveries, and creations
Is this literacy center rigorous? • Have I supported guided reading instruction by TAKING IT TO THE TEXT? • Is it engaging and motivating? • What is the purpose of the center? • Do I have the required resources? • Have I modeled the center? • Are the directions explicit? • Does each center include reading and writing activities? • Are the activities accommodating students on all levels? • Are multiple opportunities for collaboration provided? • Does the center provide real world applications?
