3. Resources for Registration Restrictions Schedule Maintainers (those with update access) training materials available at:
http://wbt.apps.uillinois.edu/traincenter_TrainMat.htm (Topic 8.2 and 8.3 of SACS 102)
Training for VIEW access is SACS 103 “Viewing Catalog and Schedule Records
available on-line in the next couple of weeks
Training for OVERRIDE access is SAAO 124 “College/Department Registration Permit Overrides”
by invitation only because departments have control and knowledge of these fields. Also, most fields populated at the Catalog level can be changed at the Schedule level making maintenance of Catalog fields impossible.
After that, each section is maintained individually and Catalog changes are NOT reflected at the section level automatically.

4. “Course controls” vs. “Registration Restrictions” See attached worksheet
Approval code like “authorization only” in UI Direct
Can include or exclude populations (college, major, class, level, degree, program)
Undergrad/Grad special note
Reserving seats is limited to Level, Major and Class—these must be monitored during registration,
Con: cannot combine with changing Max Enrollment.
Can restrict entire sections to specific student attribute groups
5. What is different? No ability to make date effective
No ability to prevent students from dropping or changing sections
Last effective set of restrictions placed on section will roll forward to like term and be in effect when registration begins
Each restriction maintained by individual CRN and manually changed when appropriate
No shadowing to non-controlling cross-listed sections, maintenance needed!

9. Include/Exclude by Major on SSARRES
10. Include/Exclude by Class on SSARRES
11. Include/Exclude by Level on SSARRES
12. Include/Exclude by Degree, not recommended
13. Include/Exclude by Program, not for use until Sp05
14. Seat management aid: Banner version of “Today’s Limit”
15. A side note --Waitlisting Recall from training that waitlists must be actively managed. Banner does not automatically move students from WL to RE status.
If a department allows wait-listing (by virtue of entering an enrollment value in the Max waitlist field), students can then place themselves on a waitlist at the time of registration if the section is closed.
NOTE--Students are able to place themselves on the waitlist of every section for a given course. Student names will remain on those sections (with WL status) even if they later register for one section of the course. This makes it critical for departmental staff to monitor and maintain the waitlist roster.
Departments cannot remove students from the wait-list on sections. (Staff can only encourage students to drop off the WL roster.)
Only a COAR user is able to remove the students from WL status.
IF THE WAITLIST IS FULL, NO OTHER STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO REGISTER, EVEN IF SEATS ARE AVAILABLE.
Departments can override individual students into individual CRN’s
16. Reserve Seats by Class, Level, Major - dig deep!
17. Restrict sections by CAPP area prerequisite These restrictions apply to every student enrolled in section
In order to register, student record must have the specific matching student attribute
Since, in most cases, we save seats for these students rather whole sections, we have set up a workaround,
Workaround= set up a separate section and then have the sections meet together using a Banner cross-list indicator
18. Take home lesson!
All units MUST rethink process for restricting student registration, especially the maintenance issues!
All units MUST rethink registration at Summer Orientation!
