Major highlights of USCC • USCC Conference 2006, July 19-23 – District 5280 at UCLA, California. • Committee Chair – Roderick Brown • Dr. Kent M.Keith– author of the Paradoxical Commandments, published in 1968 in a booklet for student leaders. He spoke about servant leadership, the idea of being people centered and not self centered. • Christiana Flessner – Executive Director of Wheelchair Foundation, Canada. $75 per chair, over 100,000 wheelchairs in over 100 countries has been sponsored by Rotary Club. • Angi Ma Wong – Ancient Solutions to Modern Day Stress. She implored us to “let go old thing and new things will come to you.” We have control of what we think, say and do. • Workshops on advertising/flyers, fundraising, web-design, membership development and community service. • International service projects – Rotaract Club of South Bay organized a school supply project in 2005 the supplies were distributed in Mexico, Nepal and Nigeria. • Rotaractors in action - • Bean Cleanup – Santa Monica Pier

  3. Goals Accomplished • Learning the true meaning of volunteerism; • - In our community and beyond, where ever duty calls. (Heal the Bay Project) Santa Monica beach clean up. • Leadership skills; • - We attended leadership seminars & workshops, with key note speakers like Dr. Dennis Orme (leadership Success Institute Founder) • Socialization & Team Work • - We met fellow rotaractors from all over the world, we shared meals, entertainment, service projects, and learnt about each other clubs. We also discussed what we where doing in our communities and our club goals for the future. Also what “ Service above self meant to us” (Rotaract Motto)

Upcoming Projects - Fall 2006 • Dinner at Threshold services – home for mentally challenged individuals • Sponsoring a minimum of two wheelchairs in honor of the 1) Silver Spring Rotary Club and faculty advisors Dr. Robert Brown and Mr. Paul Hayduk. 2) Rotaract Club of Montgomery College. The cost is $75 per chair which is specifically made for third world countries, a portfolio of the recipient will be sent to the sponsors. This idea is a result of a presentation made about the wheelchair foundation at the 2006 USCC conference. • Shepherds table – soup kitchen • Bethesda Care – children home • Clothes drive for the winter • We hope to build a future relationship with College Park Rotaract and Capitol City along.
