Development Objectives “Increase Croatia’s trade competitiveness through improved transportation chain for both freight and passengers traffic.” (a) improve efficiency at Rijeka Port by: (i) assisting in privatization of LR and port operations, (ii) rehabilitating infrastructure and replacing equipment, (iii) improving financial performance and gradually reducing Government contributions; (b) Improve land connections by: (i) constructing Western section of the Rijeka Bypass and port connector road; (ii) rehabilitating the Krk bridge; Rijeka Gateway Project ECSIE Transport Retreat – November 6, 2003

SUMMARY PROJECT ANALYSIS 2/2 • Comprehensive Environment Management Plan will be implemented • for each component (port, interface and roads) • details are available in EA Executive Summary (annex 12) • Social negative impacts from the project will be mitigated • for port redundant staff, land acquisition and resettlement • details are available in the “LR Social Plan” and “Land acquisition and resettlement plan” (annex 13). Next steps - Conclusions A lot of work is needed from PRA, HC and HAC to make the project a success PIUs’ managers and staff will have a critical role to play during the project implementation The Bank is a partner until the completion of the project in 2009, either through the Project Team or the Country Office Success of the project will be measured in terms of increased trade and new jobs created, not in term of US$ disbursed Rijeka Gateway Project ECSIE Transport Retreat – November 6, 2003
