  4. Domain 1: Planning and Preparation • Typically, planning is done by the individual teacher, and, therefore, not always readily evident to the public eye. • What are some things we do to plan for instruction? • However, when a lesson is delivered, the advance planning becomes visible. • Identify which domains the above statements fall under.

  5. Potential Evidence for Domain 1 • Lesson plans • Interest surveys • Learning styles or multiple intelligences inventories • Parent feedback • Web resources • Strategies • Differentiate instruction forms • Assessments

  6. Domain 1: Planning and Preparation When designing student assessments, teachers plan with the end in mind. Teachers design or select assessments that are: -congruent with instructional outcomes -align with state standards -contain a balance of formative and summative activities, and -include appropriate data from standardized tests and district assessments. Data!

  7. Domain 1: Planning and Preparation • A teacher may want to share the entire sequence of learning to establish a greater understanding of their overall instructional goals and objectives. • These goals are clearly articulated, both in the planning process and in the delivery of instruction. • Goals must be capable of being assessed.

  8. Domain 1: Planning and PreparationKnowledge of Students-1b Although master of their own content and pedagogical skills, teachers plan with student misconceptions in mind and know how to address those misconceptions through individualized instruction and modified tasks.

  9. Domain 1: Planning and PreparationDesigning Coherent Instruction-1e • Instructional outcomes, the activities, the materials, the methods, and the grouping of students are deliberately planned and hang together (coherent instruction). • The sequence of activities logically progresses from easy to hard, simple to complex, from one domain of learning, to the integration across several. ...more arranging than teaching...

  10. Domain 1: Planning and PreparationDesigning Coherent Instruction-1e • The ultimate goal of a lesson plan is to engage students in learning • When planning for “engagement,” a teacher creates activities and assignments that: -emphasize thinking and problem-solving -permit students choice and -encourage depth, rather than breadth
