The Essay Challenge – a two week homework We would like you to write a story about somewhere that is important to you - it can be fact or fiction, set at any time in the past, present or future. POSSIBLY: • Maybe your parents or grandparents have told you about what your local area was like when they were young. • How have things changed? • Can you imagine what it might have been like in your neighbourhood 25, 50 or even 100 years ago? OR: • What do you think your area will look like in the future? • Can you imagine what your neighbourhood may look like for your grandchildren in 30 or 60 years time? • What may happen to the physical environment (e.g. climate change)? What may happen to the human geography (e.g. size of the town, tourism, immigration). OR: • You could write a story about somewhere you have been on holiday, or a distant place you would like to visit, or where a pen pal lives. The decision is yours! We will be looking for creative and exciting stories which bring places to life and bonus points will be awarded for including photographs or drawings.

Now brainstorm all the things that you can think of about that area. • Make a decision about which one of the places you are going to write about. • Do some research (yes, parents count as useful sources of information!) to check your facts. • Do not give lots of details about activities.
