  2. It isn’t working. • Capital punishment gets nothing done in America, or any other country worldwide. Not only is it double the cost to house a criminal on death row rather than just in jail, and it is proven that the murder rates are lower in states without the death penalty.

  3. Ad Baculum/Pathos • Example 1 • This video is appealing to the fear of the viewer. Most people are afraid of dying an unfair death. This video could also induce some pathos because there is a sense of pity that goes along with dying to soon, or suddenly, when they don’t deserve it. The author illustrated that well with the metaphor of someone getting hit by a car while walking down the street, doing seemingly nothing to deserve it.

  4. Logos/Ad Absurdum • example • Okay, I know it’s a Boston Legal Clip, but it’s good. • This video does a good job of mocking America’s appeals to patriotism look ridiculous. It is making fun of the idea that to be American is to be all things “conservative” (pro-life, anti-homosexuality) and yet to believe that an eye for an eye won’t make the whole world blind. The logos part of this video, while discreet, did a wonderful job of showing the graphs of states without the death penalty's crime rates against those who had it.

  5. pathos • Example1 • The man in this commercial was a great example of some of the flaws in not only our judicial system but also the idea of capital punishment. While watching the video, it’s difficult not to feel sorry for him. He was murdered for a murder he didn’t commit. The idea of this commercial was to make the viewer feel pity towards him and the other one in seven people who paid the ultimate price for crimes they didn’t even commit.
