OBJECTIVE The objective of this project is to develop and apply advanced methods suited to precisely locate and characterize microearthquakes that occur during hydrofracturing to determines of fracture zone. This project consists of four specific tasks: 1. Develop suitable software for travel time calculations and for synthetic seismograms; 2. Improve the location of seismic events with advanced location algorithms; 3. Determine in-situ stress direction and fracture dynamics from source properties of induced events; 4. Determine fracture density from the compressional/shear velocity (Vp/Vs) ratios, image major fractures and determine fracture orientation using shear-wave anisotropy.
