What is BACC? • Behavioral Academic and Career Counseling. • A supervisory system aimed at undergraduate students. • Specifically, students in Dr. Malott’s classes. • P360, P460, P100, GRE, SM, Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Practicum, etc. • Supervised by Dr. Richard Malott. • Operated and ran by MA students in the Behavior Analysis Training System (BATS).
BACC Mission Statement • The main purpose of BACC is to provide undergraduate psychology students with the information necessary to achieve their academic and career goals. • This is done by providing 1-on-1 counseling interviews with BATS MA students.
Is BACC really necessary? • Isn’t it true that once students enter college they suddenly are infused with any and all information they may need to succeed, both during and after college?
For those not divinely inspired… • It seems as undergrads, people expect you to know what’s going on at all times… • How to discover your dreams and • How to achieve your dreams • But, nobody has even told you the steps you must take to graduate! • (Yep, you don’t just have to meet course requirements; there are more steps!)
Your Dreams… • You may know exactly what you want to do when you graduate; that’s great! • …but some people don’t. • If you are someone who is unsure: • We want to provide you with information on available opportunities • And how to take advantage of those opportunities.
Fine, fine, I get the point…so how’s it work? • You sit down with a delightful Graduate Student Instructor; you may recognize them as your own… • And together, you fill out a ‘How to Achieve Your Goals’ form! • Basically, you get to discuss all of those academic and career issues that are most important to you!
Important things like… • Available classes that may interest you • How to raise your GPA • Practicum Opportunities • How to get Research Experience • How to get into Graduate School • Employment Opportunities…
Is it really excitement time? • Definitively yes, because we have info on… • Counseling Psychology • Clinical Psychology • Cognitive Psychology • Behavior Analysis • Organizational Behavior Management, and • I would go on, but you understand, that anything you want to know about, we got your BACC! (erm, you know what I mean).
Simultaneous Appointments=Fun!!! Appointment 2 Appointment 1
What now? • The undergraduate student (i.e. you) will decide on some goals. • Your goals may be to figure out what you want to do. This may include… • Researching a University that you are interested in (which, incidentally, we may have info on). • Or figuring out what you can do without continuing on in school. • Not just what you CAN do, but what you would like! • Or, maybe you already know what you want…
Hah! I already know what I want! See, you can’t help me! • No no, you got us all wrong! If you know what you want, then we can still help you with the steps to get there. Whether that means… • Signing up to take the GRE • Finding the most effective way to write a Resume • The Graduate School Application Process • Graduating from here sans a headache!
Cool! Now don’t forget… • You will want to come to the appointment with questions ready to ask! • You know, just to give you the best experience possible!
