The Ohio CPM Program • Comprehensive management development • Provides a professional certification • Nationally-recognized, accredited in 27 states and the District of Columbia • Collaboration between the State of Ohio and Ohio’s state universities • Ohio’s state and university collaboration is a model in the nation • Possible academic credit at the undergraduate and graduate level

  4. Program Participants • Designed for high achieving career public managers • Management position in state, county, or local government • Senior and Middle Managers • Manage people, projects, or resources that impact your agency

  5. Core Curriculum Learning Areas • General Administration & Organization • Technical & Quantitative • Analytical & Conceptual • Human Relations

Hours of Instruction & Requirements • Complete 300 required hours of professional training broken into easy to manage quarterly units over two years • Classes are held at least twice a month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays • Complete two required projects, • Project #1 - Process Improvement project • Project #2 - Collaborative, inter-agency project

Job-related OCPM Projects • Document improvements in products, service and/or work processes • Benefit internal and external customers • Integrate classroom learning with real issues in the workplace • Provide hands-on application of knowledge and skills • Join “theory” with “practical application”

Sample Award Winning Ohio Cohort projects • 2006 National Askew Award winning project, “Developing a Storm Water Utility for the City of Ashland” will generate new income of $540,000 per year for five years while fulfilling new federal and state EPA state water mandates. • 2005 National Askew Award winning project, the “Regional Emergency Warning System”, will be used to protect citizens of 8 counties from weather related dangers. • 2004 National Askew Award winning project, “Public Education in Achieving Mercury Abatement”, will be used to educate citizens on the dangers of mercury.

Job-related OCPM Projects… a return on investment !! • Sample OCPM projects, continued • Joint state project provides therapeutic and educational outdoor experience for disabled and handicapped citizens. • Two Cuyahoga County agencies develop long-term comprehensive strategic succession plans to ensure consistent and dependable leadership and service. • Four cities collaborate to establish a joint emergency management policy to provide residents better protection and save tax dollars.
