  4. What are special about Neurons? • Are specialized to transmit information throughout the body • Stop reproducing shortly after birth • Parts of the brain have more neurons at birth then later in life • Neurons die but are not replaced

  5. Are their Diseases linked with Sensory Neurons? • Amblyopia, • Astigmatism • Cataract • Color blindness • Deafness

  6. What special proteins do neurons have? FAM134B SMA/SMN • Believed that SMA was exclusively in motor neurons • Found in the Golgi apparatus • Leading inherited cause of infant death • Function unknown • Cause by a genetic deficiency of SMN • No cures, few therapies have shown positive results.
