Embrace women within the transport sector and beyond that, including the rural women’s issues – bring in as many participants as possible to the transport sector Frustration - barriers to entry into sector particularly Funding – no dedicated funding mechanisms for transport – Transport Bank vs Landbank Nepotisms is a challenge A need for officials to assist Need for organising women – more organisiations - not be fragmented – need for provincial chapters, combined and concerted effort from government and private sector to mainstream women Priorities of Transport Opportunities 2

Appeal to go across borders – regional integration, not only our immediate sphere of interest, use as a strength not a threat Database to be implemented with the information provided at registration – current registration list to add value – division into modes and provincial areas Capacity building and training – do we understand our needs? Mentorship and coaching programmes required Challenge in filling in tender forms – DoT to assist in processing tender applications Priorities of Transport Opportunities 3

Information required on the subsidisation process -Taxi subsidisation DoT to provide funding for the different provinicial chapters for the National Women’s Association Women are involved in transport but not recognised as owners of businesses as taxis are not registered in their names. Fees on Blue Train and Rovos Rail not affordable for PDIs and Government to assist in this regards Linkage in effort required between DoT, Tourism and LOC for 2010 transport opportunities. Need for a single point of reference within DoT – to assist “help desk” Priorities of Transport Opportunities….. 4

  5. Need to look at existing structures in other sectors and draw lessons from that e.g. SAWIMEA (DME) Look at options where there is no Governmental funding – need to find / explore own solutions 2. SANWIT STRUCTURE 5

CLARITY REQUIRED/CONCERNS RAISED • Clarity required on how to access opportunities relating to R400million investment by Government. • Further details required on the Reavaya BRT – phase 1 and construction opportunities • Need to follow-up and report back on this seminar and outline the wayforward – “question of what has been done since the March 2006 conference what has happened to the issues raised then” – monitoring and evaluation • Further information required on how others are running their businesses successfully – case study 6

  7. 3. CLARITY REQUIRED/CONCERNS RAISED • Need to know where we are now, how much progress has been made - implementation needs take place. • There is a need for platform for further discussions with DoT 7
