GEO Work Plan Symposium 2014GEOSS Common InfrastructureIN-03
Key 2014 Outputs • Major enhancements to the GEOSS Portal website and the underlying infrastructure were deployed in January for Plenary based on extensive user input. • User assessment of the current operations is underway. • Another development sequence is anticipated for release before Plenary in November 2014 • Revised architecture to include integration of the Discovery and Access Broker (GEO DAB), propose Yellow Pages function, and deprecation of Clearinghouse
Key 2014 Outputs, continued • Service Monitoring of GCI Component interface availability continues via Web API by MONITIS (commercial account). Alerts sent to operators and registrants when a GCI service is down, results are graphed. • Service Status Checker (USGS) is planned to be integrated with the new Portal, DAB, and Clearinghouse to display and link quality of service monitoring for registered services from GEO M&POs, including OGC WMS, WFS, WCS, CSW, OPeNDAP, and Esri REST.
Cross-Task Activities • Significant overlap in the roles, participation, and outcomes between IN-03-C1, IN-03-C2, and IN-05-C1. • Recommend consolidation of these three activities into a single Task component for efficiency
Evidence of the Use of Task-related Systems, Datasets, Information Products, and Services • WMO Weather Information System (WIS) being integrated to publish met data to GEOSS and enable discovery of GEOSS data in WIS • Large EO Inventory/Catalogs being configured to enable direct download of individual files/images (ESA HMA, CEOS CWIC)
Intervention needed from GEO Members and POs to Achieve 2015 Strategic Targets • Task member commitment of EO assets to GEOSS by: • creating metadata and • publishing in national, community, or international catalogs (like CEOS IDN) with links to the asset. • Commit resources using GEOSS Data-CORE tags to assert open access, wherever possible
US GEO Workshop April 1-2, 2014 Reston, VA GEOSS and Registration • The ‘pledge’ of data or services to GEO requires the act of registration • Registration collects basic information about the resource and its context (e.g. related SBAs, availability, extent) called “metadata” • Data or system owners can register metadata with GEOSS: • If you have never described your dataset or service with metadata, use the form at geossregistries.info • If you have a catalog of metadata that is not registered with data.gov, register the catalog with geossregistries.info
You may be registered already • You don’t need to do anything if: • You have created metadata for your dataset or service in an agency, national, or professional catalog and it is already registered with GEOSS • The data or service resource is already described with a current DIF or SERF in the NASA GCMD/IDN • Be sure to include any search tags (i.e. geossdatacore, EO Vocabulary) in your metadata, however
